Results of geophysical engineering surveys in Yamal and the exact location of the IAS Snowflake

Based on the results of geophysical engineering surveys in the "Jade Valley" at the Snowflake construction site in Yamal, specialists decided to move the construction site 30-40 meters from the previous location to the northwest of the lake and closer to the rock base. Rocky soil is more durable base for construction, which is almost not subject to deformation.

“Our task was to identify anomalies of soil in the future construction site because these zones are dangerous and interfering with construction. Based on the decoded and analyzed GPR data, we identified engineering survey points for the construction of the station”, commented Yury Vasiliev, executive director of the Institute of Arctic Technologies.

Note: on August 16 - 19, MIPT engineers together with partners conducted the 1st stage of geophysical engineering surveys in the "Jade Valley" at the Snowflake construction site in Yamal. They also made a 3D soils model, which saves time on basic surveys and minimizes construction costs due to an early design stage of the site plan for the Snowflake’s facilities.
