IAS “Snowflake” on the agenda of the State Commission for the Arctic Development

One of the main topics for discussion at a meeting of the Russian State Commission for the Development of the Arctic, led by Deputy Prime Minister - Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev, was the construction and commissioning time for the International Arctic Station “Snowflake”.

The economic development of the Arctic is impossible without scientific research, climate and environmental observations. Scientists will search for answers to the practical physical, chemical and environmental questions on the basis of the unique project of the International Arctic Station “Snowflake”, which should be launched in the coming years,” said Yury Trutnev.

According to Valery Falkov Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the IAS "Snowflake» project will become a “peculiar analogue of the ISS in the Arctic” and will contribute to further exploration of the Arctic and breakthrough scientific discoveries.

Following the meeting, Dmitry Artyukhov, Governor of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, and Yuri Vasiliev, Executive Director of the MIPT Institute of Arctic Technologies, noted the importance of the project’s support by the State Commission, and the subsequent State Expertise approval to start construction of the station.

Our region is doing everything to make it <project> succeed,” said Dmitry Artyukhov.
